Position Title: Social Services and Work Adjustment Counselor

Qualifications: A master’s degree from an accredited school in Social Work or a related field or a bachelor’s degree in social work with two full years of experience as a social worker in the field of work with blind or similarly impaired individuals. A background in job preparedness and/or job placement is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Services Director, the Social Worker is responsible for identifying and assessing the range of human service needs of the clients/students through surveys, direct contact, report findings, and follow-up evaluation. Through consultation with each client/student, as well as other staff members, ascertain short-range and long-range service needs; understand and maintain confidentiality. This position also manages the Community Work Adjustment Project (CWAT).

1. Assumes responsibility for initial case findings and completes the evaluation process

2. Manages the CWAT as well as the Work Readiness projects

3. Maintains clients’ files, which include case notes, initial, final, and ongoing progress staffing and monthly social service or work ready progress reports

4. Prepares and maintains accurate and up-to-date case notes in clients’ file

5. Provides appropriate counseling, supportive services, and self-advocacy training for clients/students and their families

6. Conducts Group counseling sessions for clients/students to encourage and assist them in solving their own problems when possible

7. Prepares clients/students regarding what to expect when referred to employers and maintains accurate, readily accessible statistical data on work status

8. Participates in conferences, meetings, and workshops with pertinent public, private, and volunteer agencies to assure maximum benefits for blind and visually impaired individuals

9. Oversee the Community Work Adjustment project to help students/ clients obtain and retain employment

10. Assures accurate, easily accessible programmatic information for the purpose of compliance of funding sources

11. Attends staff meetings and participates in in-service training sessions as scheduled

12. Attends and makes presentations at board meetings or other public institutions as assigned

13. Assures compliance with AER Accreditation Standards

14. Other duties as assigned
